‘Rick and Morty’ Return Finds Exciting New Life in Show’s Old Strengths


 In the world of Rick and Morty, nothing lasts. This family is surpassing reality, like replacing kitchen trash bags. Entire planets can atrophy and transform in seconds. In Emotional Eternal War, characters vacillate between vengeance and reconciliation.




So in the season six premiere, "Solaricks," it's only temporary at best when the two titular his characters reconcile not to enter the portal and fully embrace death. What follows this episode is a ferocious parade of all the reasons these two (and the show that includes them) have so many reasons to live. Rather than dwelling on the mayhem and carnage of the season 5 finale, or hitting a convenient reset button, “Solaricks” chooses a satisfying mid-zone to help each family find its place on this show’s dense cosmic board. Establish what falls. Oddly enough, this episode manages to fit into 22 minutes (all without feeling overcrowded) despite the sheer amount of plot.


Broadly speaking, "Solaricks" is a prelude to a family reunion. A fluid obstruction in the portal causes Rick, Morty, and Jerry to return to their original branch of the multiverse, while Summer and both Beths deal with beings trying to take advantage of their absence. was a high-profile revelation in its own one-track, it distilled everything that was great about an episode of Rick and Morty. None of these concepts in Solarix are really new to the show: alternate versions of characters from multiple dimensions, cloned parents, apocalypse survivors, demented geniuses, corpse-strewn living rooms, moving aliens. Now, putting all this together can be a bit daunting for newbies. But Rick and Morty, with some extra support here from episode writer Albro Lundy, has reached a point where you can enjoy all of these crumbling timelines without feeling overwhelmed.Rick and Morty Hearing Rick and Summers back-and-forth about how to bring and Jerry back from their hometown is more about rhythm and timing than delving into long-standing myths.
